Dismissed charges or Acquittals (Iowa)

A person is eligible to have their arrest record expunged if they were acquitted or the charges were dismissed and more than 180 days have passed.

Alcohol Related Offenses including PAULA. (Iowa)

A person is eligible to have certain convictions for consumption of alcohol or intoxication in public places expunged two years after the date of conviction. They must also have no other convictions, other than traffic, during those two years.

Expungement of a Misdemenaor Offense (Iowa)

A person is eligible to seal ONE misdemeanor conviction, in their lifetime, if the following conditions are met:

• More than 8 years have passed since date of conviction

• No pending charges

• Not previously given 2 deferred judgments

• Paid all costs 

• The conviction cannot be for the following types of offenses:

  • Driving without a valid license

  • Operating while under the influence (OWI)

  • A conviction for a sex offense

  • Involuntary manslaughter

  • Assault with a dangerous weapon

  • Domestic abuse assault

  • Harassment

  • Stalking

  • Removal of an officer’s communication or control device

  • Trespass with intent to commit a hate crime

  • Bestiality

  • Obstructing justice including: interference with official acts; providing false identification information; refusing to assist officer; obstructing prosecution; escape from custody; possessing contraband

  • Interference with judicial process

  • Misconduct in office

  • Misuse of public records

  • Riot

  • Weapon-related crimes

  • Protections against the family cases including: bigamy; incest; nonsupport; child endangerment; elder abuse

  • Obscenity crimes

  • Sexually predatory offenses

  • CDL-related offenses
